How To Make People Choose You Over Your Competitors Every Single Time

Mar 1, 2025

Let’s be real there are a thousand other businesses offering exactly what you do. So why should people pick you over them?

This is where 99% of businesses get stuck. They scream louder, lower their prices, or try to out-market their competition… and still, they blend into the noise.

But the 1% that dominate their space? They have something different. Something that makes them impossible to ignore.

It’s called a Unique Selling Proposition (USP) and without it you’re just another fish in the sea.

What Is a USP?

Your USP is what makes your business impossible to ignore. It’s the one thing that sets you apart from everyone else in your space.

If I walked up to 10 business owners and asked, “What makes you different?” do you know what most of them would say?

“We have great customer service.”

“We’re the best in the industry.”
“We’ve been in business since 1995.”

Blah. Blah. Blah.

These answers mean nothing to customers.

You know what does? A clear, bold, undeniable reason to choose you over everyone else.

A USP So Good It Made You Buy (Without Thinking)

Let me give you an example of a real USP—one that you’ve probably fallen for yourself.

Domino’s Pizza: “Hot, fresh pizza delivered in 30 minutes or less—or it’s free.”

Simple. Clear. Powerful.

They didn’t say they had the best pizza. They promised speed. And that’s why they won.

How to Create Your Own USP (In 3 Simple Steps)

Now, the great thing about creating your own USP is that we don't have to reinvent the wheel. In most cases the answer is already there.

Step 1: Identify What Makes You Different

Ask yourself:

  • Do I offer faster service?

  • Do I have a unique guarantee?

  • Do I solve a problem no one else does?

Write down 3–5 things that separate you from competitors.

Step 2: Find Your Customer’s Biggest Pain Point

What frustrates people about your industry? What’s their biggest hesitation before buying?

Your USP should directly solve a problem your customers already have.

Step 3: Write Your USP in One Clear Sentence

Use this formula:
“We help [Target Audience] get [Desired Outcome] using [Unique Benefit].”

Here’s how we use it:
“We help local businesses get more clients in 90 days or less—guaranteed.”

No fluff. No empty claims. Just value.
